This journal was an important vehicle for groundbreaking new feminist theological writing by women in this country. It included, as well as articles, poems, reflections, research notes, book reviews, graphics. The name comes from Queen Vashti, in the Book of Esther, of whom Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote ‘Rising to the heights of self-conciousness and self-respect, she takes her souln into her own keeping and is true to the divine aspirations of her own nature’.
The contributors and publishers connected themselves to that heritage of spiritual struggle, moving them beyond patriarchy
