The April Report is a five volume A-J (H.2) additionally titled: Report of the Royal Commission on Social Policy = Te Kōmihana a te Karauna mō ngā Āhuatanga-Ā-Iwi April 1988.
The Report inquired “into the extent to which existing instruments of policy meet the needs of New Zealanders, and report on what fundamental of significant reformation or changes are necessary or desirable in existing policies, administration, instutions, or systems to secure a more fair, humanitarian, consistent, efficient, and economical social policy which will meet the changed and changing needs of New Zealand and achieve a more just society.”
The Report is still referred to extensively today by government agencies, NGOs and academics. It is an historically important record of New Zealand society up to the 1980s and includes statistical information. This Report will not be digitised for several more years under the A-J project unless prioritised.
